How Our Students Inspire Us to Learn: or Phill Tries Something New

I didn’t want to let the weekend get away without posting, but I’ve been hard at work helping out my WRA 210 students with some amazing end-of-the-semester websites. One of them, in particular, is working on a page display that utilizes a number of colored spotlights that provide links and change the image on the screen.

This could be much more easily done with Flash, but 1) the course doesn’t have Flash training built in, 2) the student doesn’t know Flash at all and 3) my Flash skills aren’t nearly up-to-snuff, so I had to look around and get creative to try to help show the student a potential solution.

Here’s what I came up with.  Note that the student isn’t working with Mortal Kombat images (I just looked for some quick approximations on my own hard drive), but that’s the general effect.

I can’t wait to see how the student pulls it off.
