Day 40: What you put in

I’m exhausted from a long day (started awesome, though, as my amazing wife Julie got me a Nintendo Switch). I’ve been reflecting on one of my frequent refrains as a teacher. It seems far more apt in our current climate.

Be warned:it is glib.

the truth about education (and about life): you get out of it in direct relation to what you put in.

If you work hard, you will reap rewards. Maybe not rewards equal to your expectations, but rewards. If you do the least you can, it’s your fault when you don’t feel fulfilled.

If you put out hate, hate comes back. Love brings love. Kindness rewards you as much as the recipient.

Ignorance is the fast lane to hate and mistakes. Ill will leads to actual illness.

Don’t blame your education for not doing what you think it should do: there’s a reason to do the hard or seemingly boring things. The reward comes through having to put out effort.

I never told you it would be easy, Neo. I only told you it would be the truth.
