Day 46: Those Bombas, tho

Not long ago, I decided to take a chance on some quasi-pricey socks after seeing numerous Facebook targeted ads for Bombas. No one paid me for this review or anything– I’m just a dude who bought some socks.

I have three issues that often make socks a pain to buy:

  1. I get hot and sweat at a very low temperature. When I exercise, forget it. I look like I showered. And wet socks… we all know how bad those suck.
  2. My skin is sensitive on my feet, so stitches or weird seam placement/stuff that is too overly compressive in any uneven way, annoys me to no end.
  3. I have planar issues and a super tight achilles on one side, so I NEED compression on some level.

This makes finding good socks difficult. Sometimes I wear athletic compression socks, but they get too hot too fast, so I have to decide if I can handle having soggy feet at some point in order to get the compression. I often give up and wear my funky character socks (I subscribe to the Loot Crate socks thing), but those are not meant for athletic use, so on gym days, that’s a no go.

I ordered a pair of Bombas to check them out. I was particularly enamored with the fact that they match purchases with donations to homeless shelters.

I was super pleased with my pair. I wore them to work all day then to the gym. Good support, particularly at the arch. They were breathable, too, unlike my compression socks, and the moisture wicking was better than any that I’ve experienced. My socks were dry at the end of the day.

Also, while this isn’t the most lovely thing to talk about, I have a condition that I’ve been calling meat feet (thanks to Son of Zorn). Since we switched to the paleo diet, my feet have had an… odor. Like a bad, need to use the foot spray when the shoes come off odor.

The day I wore my Bombas, I didn’t have that.

So I ordered four more pairs, which for someone as budget strapped and frugal as myself should give you a sense of how much I liked the product. I’ve been wearing them all week this week, and the comfort level, wicking and stench minimization is top notch.

I also like the overall look of the ones I chose. I’d like to try some of the others when I can justify another $50 sock order, but I went with the black and gray with color pops four pack, and they seem to go pretty well with my wardrobe. The hot pink stripe and bee on my pair yesterday was a little wild, but it wasn’t out of character.

So if you need some socks and don’t mind paying a premium price, hit Bombas. They’re worth the extra money.
