If Hulk Hogan had it, The Rock IS it. Such amazing charisma, such a natural connection to the audience. It’s hard to believe he started as:
It wasn’t until the crowds went insane chanting “Rocky Sucks! Rocky Sucks!” that Rocky Maivia joined the Nation of Domination (a gimmick that couldn’t work now, right New Day?) and became “the Rock”
But that Rock wasn’t fully formed. It wouldn’t be until the Rock started going head-to-head with Steve Austin that his character would truly evolve into the superstar he would become. Honestly, though, there isn’t that much to say about The Rock. It’s more show-than-tell. A master of his standard lines (finally… the Rock… has come back… to Phill’s blog) and razor tongued, the Rock was destined to stardom. I feel a bit of anger at him for the way he essentially ruined CM Punk’s time at the top of WWE, but the Rock is the essence of a great promo from a guy with electric energy.
