Day 12: Kanye and that dude Douglass spitting Hot Fire

“[Frederick Douglass is] an example of somebody who has done an amazing job and is being recognized more and more, I notice.”

-President Donald Trump

So first of all, just… ugh.

Now, then, I don’t feel like this is one I can let pass without complaining. I was at the Oxford Kroger and their “Black History Month” display included an article about Ben Carson. I might be wrong, but I thought I heard the President say he wanted to call this “African American History Month.” But… this Frederick Douglass thing is just… ugh.

I can’t really figure out what even happened. Did our President do some research, and did he think that because he saw Douglass for maybe the first time that meant the world was just hearing about him or that he was “doing an amazing job?”

Douglass DID do an amazing job. But he did it a long time ago, and if this was the first Trump was hearing of it, perhaps he’s not fit to be the leader of this country. I mean… that’s probably not the only reason. But seriously, people realize this is disrespectful and disgusting and unacceptable, right? We went from the first black President to a guy who probably thinks that a discussion of Black Histo— I mean African American History Month needs to include his close friend Dennis Rodman.

I am asked frequently why I want to root out and illuminate issues of race and difference. THIS IS WHY. We elected a President who doesn’t get diversity. At all. And now for about 4 years at the least, we are stuck with shit like him shouting out Frederick Douglass, someone he “just noticed.”

I can’t wait until he hears about that fresh new up-in-comer MLK, or this Malcolm Jamal X guy who has made big strides since the Cosby show. Omarosa knows who I mean. The one who said “what you talking ’bout, Willis!”
